About the lecture:

Data Warehouse Architecture, Dr Asha Ambhaikar, Department of IT

Data warehouse is for transforming data into the information. How data is transformed to information? What is the process? Both the queries will be answered here. There are 3 layers which are  bottom layer, middle layer and top layer. In bottom layer various data warehouse servers are there along with meta data, monitoring integrator and datamarts. We bring the data from operational sources to data ware house

With the help of a software tool which is Extract load and transform which is also called ETL tool, data is processed. The function of ETL tool is to transform the data in to information as per the format of the data warehouse. Converted data or filtered data will be loaded to the data warehouse.

Data mart is the data of the data which is the bridge between the OLAP , the end user server and the data warehouse. The middle layer is the layer which consists of the OLAP, is between the top layer and the bottom layer. It contains all OLAP engines. OLAP engines perform operation of all electrical processors.

It works on the data and transforms it into information. There are different types of OLAP Servers which are MOLAP- Multidimensional Online Analytical Processing, ROLAP- Relational Online Analytical Processing and HOLAP- Hybrid Online Analytical Processing . Hybrid Online Analytical Processing is the combination of MOLAP- Multidimensional Online Analytical Processing and ROLAP-Relational Online Analytical Processing. All these are present in the middle layer. The middle layer is the bridge between the top layer and the bottom layer.
